Frequently asked questions
How does the Apple Health permission work, and how do I revoke it?
TeethTalk asks for permission to read your toothbrushing history from Apple Health and to write completed brushing sessions back to it. You grant that permission yourself, in the system dialog, and you can grant read or write independently.
To change or revoke it later: open the Health app → tap your profile picture → Privacy & Security → Apps & Services (also reachable via Sources) → TeethTalk, then turn the individual permissions off. Revoking access doesn't delete anything already written to Health; you can delete those entries in the Health app itself.
If you decline the permission, the timers and locally stored non-brushing routines still work. TeethTalk cannot save completed brushing sessions or read brushing history for trends without Apple Health access.
How do I restore my purchases?
If you reinstall TeethTalk or set up a new iPhone, open the app, go to the subscription or paywall screen, and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple Account that bought the subscription. Apple returns your entitlement and Premium unlocks again. There's no account to sign in to on our side, so restoring through Apple is the whole process.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple, so cancellation happens in your Apple Account, not in TeethTalk:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap TeethTalk.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
You can also go straight to apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.
Your subscription renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, so cancel before that cutoff if you don't want the next charge. If Apple shows you a free trial, the same cutoff applies during that trial. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us.
What happens to my data if I delete the app?
Everything TeethTalk stores locally — your mouthwash, floss and whitening logs, the name and personality settings for your teeth, your goals and your preferences — is deleted with the app.
Brushing sessions written to Apple Health belong to the Health database, not to TeethTalk, so they stay in Health after the app is gone. Delete them in the Health app if you want them removed.
See the privacy policy for the full picture, including what's held server-side.
Does the teeth chat see my Health data?
Your raw Health samples are never sent. If you allow optional AI features, a chat or Insights outlook request can include derived habit summaries — things like your Teeth Score, streak length and routine frequency — plus favorite-tooth details. Requests go over HTTPS to our Render-hosted backend, which forwards the AI content to OpenAI. Declining AI stops chat and outlook requests without affecting timers or the local Teeth Score. The privacy policy spells this out in detail.
How many AI messages can I send?
Free includes 10 user messages per day with your favorite tooth. TeethTalk Premium includes 100 user messages per day across all 32 teeth — exactly ten times the Free allowance. The allowance resets the next day.
Is the AI a dentist?
No. The teeth are AI characters for habit support and entertainment. Replies can be inaccurate and must not be used as medical or dental advice, diagnosis or treatment. Automated checks route clear symptom, diagnosis, dosage and urgent-care requests away from the character model and screen generated replies for common unsafe medical patterns, but they cannot catch everything and are not clinical triage. Ask a qualified dental professional about pain, symptoms, concerns or changes to your care.
How do I set up the widgets?
Widgets: touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen until the icons jiggle, tap the + button in the corner, search for TeethTalk, choose a widget size, and tap Add Widget. Launch TeethTalk at least once first so the widget has data to show.
Live Activity: a routine in progress appears on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. If it doesn't, check Settings → TeethTalk → Live Activities is turned on.
A routine timer won't start. What should I try?
- Force-quit TeethTalk (swipe up from the bottom of the screen, then swipe the app card away) and reopen it.
- Restart your iPhone.
- Make sure you're running a supported version of iOS and that TeethTalk is updated to the latest version in the App Store.
- If the whitening timer never notifies you at the end, check Settings → Notifications → TeethTalk and confirm notifications are allowed. The whitening timer runs on wall-clock time and relies on a local notification to tell you it's finished.
- If Low Power Mode or a Focus is on, notifications may be delayed — try again with them off.

Report a bug
Email patrick@monmouthconsulting.com and include:
- Your iOS version (Settings → General → About → Software Version).
- Your device model.
- The TeethTalk version, if you can find it.
- What you were doing when it happened: which routine, which screen, what you tapped, and what you expected instead.
- Whether it happens every time or only occasionally.
- A screenshot or screen recording, if you have one.
Please don't include anything you'd consider sensitive — we don't need it to fix a bug.
